Phase 2 - Proposal for Urban Intervention Strategies
Cost or Quality?
COMMENT: The strategies are good but the overall design is more towards medium to the high-cost housing area. This is a low-cost housing area; we should consider more on budget problems.
MY RESPONSE: First, I have provided the construction strategies for each of my strategies to cater to the financial capability of the local residents. For example, Linear Park can be achieved by the "Adopt a Park" program where private or public sectors are encouraged to form a long-term partnership with the local community in maintaining and beautifying parks. Solve the financial problem and promote unity between the community and the corporate sector.
Second, my strategies are based on the issues I found on the site. The overall issue is isolation, one of the reasons to cause this issue is there is no new investment in the site. Although this is a low-cost housing area, it doesn't mean it has to in low-cost housing standards forever. Every site has to be improved. I think it is suitable to improve the facilities and environment to a higher standard. These implementations can provide a higher value for the site. This can be a starting point to attract more investment to the area.
This project will show that low-cost housing can have a better living environment if proper connectivity in space and social is the plan. A lost cost housing doesn’t necessarily mean a small unit with only four walls and no balcony. More can be done within the budget if proper planning is in place.
